The Student Health Center is offering flu shots to all UB faculty, staff and students.

Oscar-winning actor Sidney Poitier, who paved the way for greater opportunities for minorities in the movie and television industries, will speak at the 蜜桃传媒 on March 14 at UB's 24th Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration.

The UB Graduate School of Education will hold an open house from 5-7 p.m. on Feb. 1 in Baldy Hall on the North Campus to provide information to persons thinking of a pursing a career in education or an advanced degree in the field.

A remastered version of the Japanese epic "Ran" and the classic horror masterpiece "The Bride of Frankenstein" are among the films on tap for the spring edition of "Buffalo Film Seminars: Conversations about Great Films with Diane Christian and Bruce Jackson," a 14-week series of screenings and discussions sponsored by the 蜜桃传媒 and the Market Arcade Film and Arts Centre.

Zodiaque Dance Company will present its spring concert, "Ripples Too," Feb. 15-18 and 22-25 in the Drama Theatre in the Center for the Arts on the North Campus.

New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer will be the featured speaker when alumni and friends of the 蜜桃传媒 Law School hold their annual New York City Alumni Luncheon at noon on Jan. 26, in the Union League Club, 38 East 37th St. in Manhattan. The event is held each year in conjunction with the New York State Bar Association's annual meeting.

Alex Anas, Ph.D., Frank H. and Josephine L Goodyear Professor in the Department of Economics in the 蜜桃传媒 College of Arts and Sciences, who has developed a new strategic-planning model that will allow urban planners to examine alternative "what-if" scenarios in advance and predict their consequences, and his interdisciplinary project team have received a $450,000 award from the National Science Foundation to continue their three-year study of the effect of different infrastructure investment-and-financing strategies on the development of metropolitan areas.

B. Beth Cohen, Ph.D., of Buffalo, clinical assistant professor in the Department of Psychology in the UB College of Arts and Sciences, has been named director of the university's Psychological Services Center.

In a move that bolsters both institutions, Kerry Grant, dean of the 蜜桃传媒's College of Arts and Sciences, today announced the appointment of Vincent O'Neill, founder and artistic director of the Irish Classical Theater Company (ICTC), as chair of the UB Department of Theatre and Dance.

Now in its third year, the 蜜桃传媒's master's degree program in applied economics has tripled its enrollment -- drawing, in particular, a large international student contingent -- and by all accounts, seems to be filling a niche both for student and market demand.

The family of Yong H. Lee has remembered the 1981 graduate of the 蜜桃传媒 School of Engineering and Applied Sciences with an endowed scholarship in memory of the helicopter pilot who died in 1996 in a crash during the initial test flight of a military helicopter bound for the presidential fleet.

Praxair Inc., a global supplier of industrial gases that has operations in Tonawanda, has pledged $600,000 to the 蜜桃传媒 -- $400,000 for the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and $200,000 for the School of Management and its Executive MBA Program in China. Minglu Gao is an artist, art historian, curator and author who was born and bred in the political and cultural tumult of late 20th-century China. Political circumstances sent him off to spend his teen-aged years herding cattle in Mongolia and later propelled him into the explosive Chinese art movement of the 1980s. Today he is a noted curator and assistant professor of art history at the 蜜桃传媒.
